All this has happened before, all this shouldn’t happen again.

Remember a while back we had people in the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ tag hating on minor awesome characters? In that case Dee and Cally? That time we fought the hate with love and we are going to do this again and again because character love is better than character hate. Ellen “mother of dragons cylons” Tigh

I can’t even get mad about Ellen hate half the time because, much like Baltar hate, my first reaction is HAHAHAHAHA ENJOY THE REST OF THE SHOW, LET ME KNOW HOW THAT WORKS OUT FOR YOU.

*ahem* But that’s mean, love is good, all hail the mother of dragon-Cylons.

No in all seriousness, I was one of the hipster Ellen fans before it was ~cool if only because Kate Vernon was such a force of nature, I just adored every second of screentime she got. I credit her entirely for taking character that was often terribly written for the first couple of seasons, who I kept feeling like I *should* hate on paper (if only because she was like Whitman’s sampler of Bad Woman tropes), and yet making her feel like a REAL person. For all her outrageousness, Ellen felt like a human being to me.

And on top of that she just brought a completely different energy to the show that I loved — in the midst of all these grim, serious characters, she was tacky and frivolous and just wanted to have fun. On the show where no one’s ever having fun!

The real meat of her character obviously came later on, first with the utter tragedy on New Caprica and then her glorious reintroduction as Mama Cylon Ellen. I have so many feelings about how the Tighs as a unit went from being this horrible dysfunctional mess to being still that but also like the greatest love story that ever lived, and how Ellen in particular went from being this joke character who seemed like she stepped out of another show entirely to the ambitious, brilliant, loving queen of the freaking Cylon race. GUYS, THIS SHOW GOT SO WEIRD AND WONDERFUL. I CANNOT TO THIS DAY.

Filed under battlestar galactica the finest kind fun fact: lucy lawless was offered the part of Ellen in S1. she turned it down. this is such an interesting story to me! in light of what ellen ended up being (though no one knew then) but also thank god because can you imagine no d'anna and no kate vernon's ellen??
